Thrifting for Pyrex, Corelle, Corning, & Fire King

I have been thrifting quite often lately trying to find a full set of antique Crazy daisy Pyrex bake ware and plate set and Friendship Pyrex bake ware one piece at a time. Which is hard for me because I get super excited to find them and when I don't I come home and look at all the pretty Retired Pyrex on ebay and laugh at the outrageous shipping and I know Pyrex is heavy but when you are charging 19.99 to ship on casserole dish or 12.99 to ship one plate that is excessive. I did order one set of Friendship casserole dishes off ebay last year. It was a set of Three and it only cost 13.03 to ship the whole order here. I wish people would get with the program and learn that if your merchandise isn't selling its because your prices are to high. If you are going to try to get your money through shipping charges then don't mark the merchandise up so high... And get you shipping charges estimated before you just pick a number!

But here is some Dishes I have purchased and some info about it.

Not Pictured is 3 Pyrex Refrigerator Dishes, One 1.5 cup Primary Red 1940, One 1.5 cup Butter Print 1949, and One 1.5 Quart Butter Print dish and a Small Yellow Pyrex bowl that I am not sure what set it goes with. Also Butterfly Gold saucers and cups.

Taking on Potty Training.... The CATs!

Yes people. I have decided old cats can learn new tricks and I am on my way to having atleast 4 potty trained cats, maybe 5.

I ordered this a couple weeks ago when I ran upon this thing called a Litter Kwitter on some animal website when I was looking for a Jolly Ball with a handle on it for Roxie. It has always been a running joke in our house that we go through so much litter that it would be much cheaper to potty train. So I ran it by The husband... and wah la (or how ever its spelled) 60 bucks for a hunk of pastic & the UPS fairy dropped it on my doorstep this morning.(On the door step because I wouldn't get out of bed & fight the barking & jumping dogs just to answer the door.)

But day one seems like it is going ok. The 4 cats that I have introduced it to seem pretty comfortable jumping up on the toilet seat already. They will get up there and sit when its closed. So I figured for now I would skip step one of putting the tray on the floor beside the toilet.

I figure Moejo will be the first to use it. Copper and him still have their off days so he likes to be able to see around him while using the bathroom.

Copper I figure will be next because he seems to be the next brightest and inthosed to sit and scratch. The other two, Romeo & Dewy are about 7 years old and I am not sure how they will fair with training. Romeo seemed ok to sit there. And Dewy was really unsure about the whole thing. But he is easily frightened. Storm ha strained her hurt leg again so I don't want her jumping right now. Not sure if she will really be interested anyways. Beltane I figure I have no hope unless the other cats teach him. He is a touch me not, that stays hidden all day and comes out only at night after the Pibble, his archenemie, is in bed. He will let us pet him a little but otherwise he is happy doing his own thing on his own time...
With atleast 4 potty trained cats I figure we will be able to cut down on the around $40 I spend on cat litter a month. So if this works it will be well worth the money, the health of the cats, and our earth.

O ' yeah I read reviews that it will not fit an elongated tiolet. We have one and it fits it just fine. It doesn't cover the entire toilet seat. But it does cover lost of it and it hasn't popped off.

Wish me luck ;)

~*~CHICKENS~*~

My Chickidees have grown up. Someone has started laying eggs. I think it is Lil Banti. There was 4 when I checked the coop for cleaning today. I can't believe how fast they have grown. They are around 19 weeks now and that is still crazy. They were not supposed to start laying till they were 20 to 22 weeks so someone is off to an early start! So now we have to separate the Roosters from the hens. I am not looking forward to doing that. They have all grew up together. I have to go purchase some wood so I can build them a coop. I hate to separate them but I can't have tons of chicks running around were I live. So they are going to keep these first eggs to see if they will hatch but after that the Roosters have to be moved some where else on our property. :( I knew this day would come. But I am sad to see it get here. They all seem so happy and content together.. well at least when the Roosters are being nice and not chasing the hens down. But this is a true event to me. I am happy but sad all at the same time. But I still love having my chickens. They are awesome and I can't wait to move in the future so they can have a ton of space to run around and play!

Quick Update 8/11/2009: was visiting with the chickens and found Mabon turning the eggs so they are probably hers. She is a sex link so it might be her breed that lays early.

On another note.. My but head rooster Titan tried to flog me!!! Can you believe that? I turned around to walk away and he came after me! lol.. Don't tell anyone.. but that was scary..lol.. I chased him beck for it. I will see where I stand with him in the morning. lol. I hope he doesn't become one of those roosters who flogs everyone .... :(

Fridge to small or eyes to big for my Frdiges tummy?

Well I have come to the conclusion that I must grocery shop way to much or to often. I don't know. I love to grocery shop and try new stuff and new recipes. But my fridge does not have the same idea. It holds alot just not enough...lol... I need a new fridge. I'm not getting one though. I can't afford it right now. I'm just not sure what to do... and I guess I can't just complain about the fridge. It is the whole tiny kitchen!!! I don't have a good pantry. I mean it is big but not well designed. The people who put it in was not thinking clearly...So it is food storage plus a junk pit from hell, that I have to dig through to find anything I want.

I love having a well stocked pantry so I can cook when ever and what ever I want.

Sigh.... I can't wait to one day have a good sized well designed kitchen! So I can find and use everything. I would cook much more often! So here I will leave you pictures of my poor kitchen storage problems...

Snow ! & icy roads!

O the weather outside is frightful... But the fire is so delightful.... But as long as you love me so.. let it snow let it snow let it snow.... well maybe a little snow.. not to much...lol

Well it has snowed here a good bit already this year. The last few winters have been pretty good not getting much snow and frigid temps till January.. But a little just to let you know its winter. This year it has already snowed multiple times and has been so so cold..!!! Last night we received a few inches of snow. But our roads were not treated at all. They were awful . Plus it snowed a little more this morning. So John called off from work. Which he never does! Around noon today there was one clear spot on the road in front of our house. Just where the sun was beating down on it. But a car lost control and flipped!!!! I called 911... and the guy was not seriously injured luckily. About 20 feet behind this car the road was still covered with snow and ice. O yeah..It took them forever to find a tow truck driver to come out because of the road conditions. Alot of them just said the road were to bad for them to bring out there flat beds... I mean.. So that car laid in the road for over an hour. Then it took almost a half hour for them to flip the car and get it situated. They did at least cause less damage flipping his car over then they did ours when John flipped it.

There was also another wreck this morning up above our house right out of town. Another Subaru rolled over the hill about the time John was wanting to leave this morning to go to work. I heard the fire whistle and then asked him to stay home till the roads cleared. The lady they pulled out of that car as far as I know is ok. The car went over the hill so far they had to put ladders down the hill to pull her up to the road where the ambulance was waiting. The same cop and fire crew was at that accident.

But here is a couple pictures. I also have video of the car being flipped back over and loaded up. If I can figure out how to up load it.lol...
Anyways. The snow was gorgeous laying out there this morning. I wish I would have gotten some shots of that. But I was to lazy to. I don't like the winter over all. Cold & Wet... yuck!!! And John works Sunday thru Wednesday and when school is canceled or it is the week end. The state road does not treat the roads early in the morning. So John drives to work pretty often on ice covered roads. Which really scares me. He normally leaves early early.. so.. Anyways... I like this time of year. Just not the weather. I guess its not the same without it though. Just wish the roads would stay clear.

Porch Update...

This is one of the first days the kitties were aloud out side onto the porch. Now a couple weeks later they claw at the animal door to go out there. It is screened in on this side and they love it. It is a big hit. Cooper stays out there almost 24/7. But a few hours a night I do close it and they all come in. But I let them go in and out to the porch when ever they please. So my totally in door kitties have grown to love the screened in porch. They are still a little skittish. If my neighbors go outside they fly back into the house.

I even have a new visitor. I don't know if she has a home but she come here to get fed. She was really really skinny when I first found her. But now she has gained a little weight. My neighbors was calling her one day but I know they are not supposed to have cats. So I don't know if they were just feeding her or if she is thiers. She does have kittens some where though. She is the sweetest girl.

Anyways the porch is almost finished. We have to fix a leaky spot on the roof and stain the floor and we will be done. "C" loves sitting out there. And we love it too.

Porch biulding & Eyrthema Nodosum...

Well I have again been very busy. And when I'm not busy I have been sick. Fun times I tell you...!lol.. First off all day I have been kind of doing spring cleaning. Well at least when I feel like it. I have Eyrthema Nodosum. Which are nodules caused by many things. I have yet to pen point what is causing mine. So about 6 months out of the year on and off I have this breakout. Painful very painful. I also have joint pain and stomach sickness. Flu like symptoms, we will leave it like that. Anyways. I have had these for the last 3 weeks. Maybe more. So I have called off from work 2 days last week and now the doctor has told me not to go back till at least next Monday. Lets just say by the time I get back to work everyone is going to hate me.. :( So pain, housework, sick stomachs... Lets get to the new covered porch my husband is building. It is going to be screened in for the cats. My cats are totally indoor. They NEVER go out side. So I know they are going to love it. I can't wait for "J" to get done. Problem is we only have a car so lumber is hard to get home. Last weekend we brought home 6- 2x4's 4-2x6's and 4 cement porch blocks ( Which we never used.) Lets just say that is not a fun ride. We have a sports car. An Eagle Talon. Now this week end I am going to have to make the trip 2 times to get just the 20- 2x6's unless I find a truck. So Sorry No new posts. I have just been busy with other things. I do have some upcoming posts though. Hopefully in the next week I will cook a little.

Spice racks & Paint colors..

I have tons and tons of spices and a small kitchen. So cabinet space and no space to hang a traditional rack. So a few months ago I bought some wood at Lowe's and my "J" hang it up for me. Very simple & it used up some formerly unusable wall space. I love it.. Thank you "J"!!!!! Very Very Much... now he needs to expand it some more though. I haven't figured out how I want him to do that yet. But I am working on it.
O yeah and if you look a little to the right you will see color samples... I'm not sure which one to use yet and they have been there for like 6 months...lol...
