Amys Vegan Spinach & Cheese Pizza & Vegan Mac & Cheese & Soy Dream Butter Pecan Reviews

We have been trying some new vegan products and I am happy to report they are all on the good side. I have been looking for the two Amy's products for sometime and one of our Krogers have finally gotten them in. I hope they keep getting them!

Amys Vegan / Gluten Free Spinach and cheese pizza

This was my least fave of the three new products. I have been craving pizza like crazy and so we paid $8 dollars for this single serve pizza that we split between the two of us. It is big enough to split. Even have 4 servings. It reminds me of one of those 99 cent cheese pizzas you would by at walmart... So it was annoying to pay so much for it. But to get a vegan options I decided it was worth it.

It cooked up quickly. The cheese melts with the broiler. And it really melted nicely even though there was very little vegan cheese on top of the sauce. There is a vegan ricotta on the crust as well and I am assuming that was the texture that I really wasn't happy with. It might have been a mix or the rice flour crust and the vegan ricotta. The red sauce on the pizza is nice. I am normally really picky when it comes to pizza sauce and when I wasn't vegan I didn't eat those little cheap pizzas because the sauce was gross. But this sauce wasn't bad at all. The crust cooked up nicely and tasted good. I would have still preferred the texture of a regular flour crust. But i do understand why they have made it with rice flour.

I really want to try their plain cheese vegan pizza. That is next on my list. High hopes for that one.

For Amy's Vegan Spinach Pizza I give it a 6.5 out of 10. For Taster, Texture, Price.

Next is Amy's Vegan Mac & Cheese!!!!

This one I have been looking and looking for. I was so excited to try this. I really haven't liked any of the soy mac and cheese options available. So I picked up two of these at $3.79 for a single serve microwave/oven tray. I didn't know that they were made with daiya till I checked the ingredients list. so this was our first experience with any daiya products.

I chose to cook it in the oven. It came out gooey and creamy. My first taste I was surprised how tangy the cheese was. It like a very sharp cheddar. It was really good. it will take me a while to get used to the sharpness. But the texture of the pasta is perfect and the cheese texture is really nice too. It is a very "stuck together" type of cheese but it works well.

I ate about half of it before I decided I wanted to try it with chips because I have also missed nachos. It worked really well with the chips too. Plus the extra salt from the chips worked with the cheese. So it would be great for a quick fix nacho craving!

So many rating is 8.99 out of 10 as a product whole. As a Vegan Mac and Cheese it definitely rates a 10 out of 10! :) All smiles from us!!! Great product!

Last product review for now is Soy Dreams Butter Pecan.

I have been craving butter pecan ice cream like there is no tomorrow. But the last time I tried a soy version it was Purely Decadent's Praline Pecan.. And I really didn't like it. But Soy Dream Butter Pecan is everything you would want in a butter pecan ice cream. Its creamy and tastes just like the original cows milk ice cream I grew up with. I am in love with this ice cream. It is my new Vegan Ice cream favorite! But it is about 3.98 a pint.... I wish it came in a bigger container. But I will take what I can get!

Rating 11 out of 10... and so many more!!! I can't wait to get my next pint!

I told John this would be the perfect treat to sneak into a movie with us! So next time we go to a movie in Mo-town... The ice cream is coming with us... Theaters need to get some vegan treats! and if they don't.. well than I'm taking in my own! :)

Taking on Potty Training.... The CATs!

Yes people. I have decided old cats can learn new tricks and I am on my way to having atleast 4 potty trained cats, maybe 5.

I ordered this a couple weeks ago when I ran upon this thing called a Litter Kwitter on some animal website when I was looking for a Jolly Ball with a handle on it for Roxie. It has always been a running joke in our house that we go through so much litter that it would be much cheaper to potty train. So I ran it by The husband... and wah la (or how ever its spelled) 60 bucks for a hunk of pastic & the UPS fairy dropped it on my doorstep this morning.(On the door step because I wouldn't get out of bed & fight the barking & jumping dogs just to answer the door.)

But day one seems like it is going ok. The 4 cats that I have introduced it to seem pretty comfortable jumping up on the toilet seat already. They will get up there and sit when its closed. So I figured for now I would skip step one of putting the tray on the floor beside the toilet.

I figure Moejo will be the first to use it. Copper and him still have their off days so he likes to be able to see around him while using the bathroom.

Copper I figure will be next because he seems to be the next brightest and inthosed to sit and scratch. The other two, Romeo & Dewy are about 7 years old and I am not sure how they will fair with training. Romeo seemed ok to sit there. And Dewy was really unsure about the whole thing. But he is easily frightened. Storm ha strained her hurt leg again so I don't want her jumping right now. Not sure if she will really be interested anyways. Beltane I figure I have no hope unless the other cats teach him. He is a touch me not, that stays hidden all day and comes out only at night after the Pibble, his archenemie, is in bed. He will let us pet him a little but otherwise he is happy doing his own thing on his own time...
With atleast 4 potty trained cats I figure we will be able to cut down on the around $40 I spend on cat litter a month. So if this works it will be well worth the money, the health of the cats, and our earth.

O ' yeah I read reviews that it will not fit an elongated tiolet. We have one and it fits it just fine. It doesn't cover the entire toilet seat. But it does cover lost of it and it hasn't popped off.

Wish me luck ;)

Almond Breeze Brand Milk- Review & How to Make homemade almond milk

I have recently been collecting coupons and when I was at the grocery store stumbled upon 2 coupons for Almond Breeze which is made by Blue Diamond. It was already on sale for $2.99 and I used a .75 coupon that got doubled and a 1.00 off coupon. So I basically got the half gallon for .49 cents. Awesome right. They are also running a promotion right now for a printable .50 cent coupon on their website. Well I should have picked up a couple more because it is awesome! love the taste and texture so much. I have only put up with soy milk because I don't really like rice milk. But I never drink it straight and I really wasn't big on cereal with soy. But I still ate the cereal. But now I enjoy it! I even drink the almond milk straight! WOW... We have been missing out. It is a very smooth and creamy milk and just plain good. If you are used to drinking or using cow's milk this has a thicker quality like cows milk that soy milk doesn't have. I have only tried the original though. I will be trying the chocolate next time I go to the grocery store. I really can't wait to get some more. Ours only lasted a day! Definitely try this product! It is so very Yummy. I can't rate this high enough!

A while ago I was thinking about making almond milk. When I worked at a small Vegetarian owned store a few years ago. The owners made their own almond milk. But I never got to try it. I looked around a while back to price almonds and then decided it would be around the same price as just buying it made. Here it is normally around $4 for half a gallon that isn't organic. (Almond Breeze) I can make organic for around 3.50 to 4 dollars for 6 cups. So I have been thinking about trying to make it. It is very simple to make. There are tons of recipes online. Plus I love the fact that you can use the pulp for cookies, any thing with almonds or dry it and make almond flour. So you get a couple products not just the milk. So I do have some almonds for baking but I think I am going to soak some tonight and make some almond milk since we have already ran out. Can't wait to try it.

Almond milk instructions.
Basically you measure out 2 cups or 10oz of almonds and soak them over night. Then you drain them and put them in the blender with 6 cups of water. You blend it all together with a high speed blender. Some people like it plain others add some dates for a sweeter end product. After it has been blended you poor it through cheese cloth or something similar to remove the almond pulp. Then you have the milk. It will keep for 3-7 days. Then either freeze the almond pulp for cookies and such or dry it and make flour!all done.

I will post pictures and how it tastes or if it tastes similar to store bought almond milk later!

Books, Arts Supplies & Coupons, My day in a nut shell

Well as I mentioned in the previous post I have yet again went shopping for books & art supplies, as well as used alot of coupons.

First coupon use of the day was at AC Moore. I Purchase a Book called Tasty Crochet. It looks awesome. Although they want you to use wool. So I hope things turn out ok using Cotton..... Why does every knitting book tell you to use wool & other animal fibers...? So annoying. I have been looking for a cotton or cotton blend pattern for a Shrug but have yet to find one....So evil... Someone please point me in the right direction :) Originally 18.95

Went to Krogers to use some coupons on some new meals Healthy Choice has out. They are Pot Stickers with Asian flavored rice & veg. What I can see of them I am assuming they are vegan. I hope they are and that I am not just missing some chemical word some where. If I am please let me know. But I didn't spend any more money on them. I had 2- $2.00 off coupons. The meals range from $1.88 to $2.12 around here. So sometimes buying them paying me... :) which is always a good thing. They are pretty good. The Pot stickers have tofu, cabbage, & carrots in them. Then the rice & veg has something like sweet & sour sauce but its a little tangy too. Pretty good though!

Then went back to AC Moore and used another 50% off coupon for Martha Stewart's glitter set. I want to do all the animals portraits in her glitter painting to hang up around the house... Might take some time and patients but hopefully I will get it. It was originally $29.98 and I got it for $14.99. I also got a .99 cent bottle of craft glue...

Then went to target. Got some Salt & Vinegar baked chips. The only ones I can find without whey in them. There is one other brand but they are really sour/bitter.. not sure but I make funny faces of pain.... :) Christmas gifts, and some cleaner.

Also went to Marshalls- browsing bought books & Christmas presents, Toys R Us- Looking for Zhu Zhu Pets, Subway- Had a veggie sub, Tractor Supply Co- looking for a dog harness & chicken supplies ... its crazy what you can find at a farm store... I mean outside of chicken stuff.. lol... Biglots- Browsing, Jo Ann Fabrics- browsing, Borders looking through some of the vegan cook books I have been wanting.. and have I mentioned the ladies working there tonight where useless? and Walmart- Got a couple groceries.... Grand total.. although I saved a lot using coupons.. is still to much for me to post today.. so embarrassing.... :)

Also picked up a couple Christmas presents. I think my next rant just might be about consumerism & Christmas..... yay....

Accidents & Arts Store sales and Coupons + My take on the Cliff Bar & Pizza Sauce Recipe

Went to the art store yet again. Couldn't let my 50% off coupon go to waste could I?

Well John recently ran his work van off the road and into a rock avoiding a head on collision with a vehicle that was on his side of the road. My husbands place of work os being a complete but about this. He was off work till he could do drivers training again. And that was from last Monday till This Monday when he went back. So we have had to worry about many all week. Finally they tell us he was not found at fault. And this morning told us he would have pay for Tues, Wed, and Sun.... So 30 hours.... When he Missed over 40.... So irritating. They are supposed to get back to us soon like 8 other Hours for Monday. But they have really been butts all week with how they have done everything. The his FSM called and said if he has another wreck in the next 3 years he is fired. Even if it is a non preventable! Screw them!!! So annoying. So now I have that to worry about! Stupid beep beep beeeps! Anyways. Monday morning after not sleeping all night I had to take John to work. we never really thought about it in advance or I would have tried to get some sleep. My sleep schedule is forever screwed... anyways. I decided to go to the art store before I came home. Actually I went to quite a few stores but I will get there in a minute. So we leave at 6am to take John to work. Half ways their the Engine light came on. So when we got to his job we hooked it up to the OBD2 reader. Its reading P1899 PD. We have a 99 Dodge Stratus by the way... I had my mom look it up online and it said Park Neutral switch stuck in gear. So got to Walmart to wait for Auto zone to open and look to see if they got any Zhu Zhu pet tunnels in. No luck.... Waited outside Advanced Auto for 10 minutes and they finally opened. The 2 people in their were NO help at all and were completely ignorant. So I go back to look up the trouble code in one of the car manuals found it then looked up what the part does and how to fix it. (We have one of these books but it was at home and lost... :) ) Anyways. I go back up to ask to use their phone because my cell was out of minutes. The guy keeps repeating that I need to go to the dealer he can't help me. Well ok.. but can I use your phone. It took him forever to quite repeating himself and to let me use his phone.... annoyed much?? I sure as hell was. I called John to tell him what it controlled. Then went to the dealer to see how much it would cost to order the part & ask if it would be ok to drive with the problem. Well the dealer was pretty much no help at all either. I asked him a lttle more on how it worked and the only thing he would tell me is that I could have a problem starting my car or it could stop working. Ok... Then he sent me to where they order the parts. Its like $50.91 and is also called a rotary switch.... I didn't order it. Then I decided I was still going to Clarksburg to my art store....

My take on the Cliff Bar...
Go to Clarksburg wait at target for the art stores to open. Because they don't open till 9am. So I waited for an hour at target. Bought a Cliff bar to eat because there is nothing for breakfast for a vegan around there and I was to lazy to drive to walmart to get fruit. This cliff bar had the texture and appearance of a turd... yes a turd and it didn't taste much better... so needless to say I only ate a few bites. lol.. yes more then 1..give me a break I was sleepy & hungry... I never eat "energy.. protein ... (what ever you want to call them) Bars... I don't know why I decided this would be the day to begin....

Jo Anne Fabrics
Finally opened at 9 so I went in thinking it would be an in and out run. But when your tired everything looks so sparkly........lol... no, but I couldn't remember everything I wanted fabric for. The Fusible webbing that was on sale on line wasn't on sale at the store... She did give me a 40% off coupon for it and she did mark down one other one to the sale price online. But it was annoying. Then I couldn't decide which fabrics I wanted.... I shouldn't have been out shopping... lol. Lets just say it took me 2 hours & 10 minutes to spend $24.00. Awful! Then when I was in line the same lady who always screws up checking stuff out for me screw up someone elses by not putting in 50% off competitors coupon in right. So she refunded the WHOLE..... purchase and started all over... after they argued about it for 10 minutes.. And she was the only cashier.... Finally they opened another register but it wouldn't have done me any thing to go to the other so I stayed put. Finally it was my turn. and she had the nerve to bite off my head... For nothing! She really annoyed me... O lord... please give me patients.... So I finally got checked out even though I had to check out two separate purchases because the Manager had given me another coupon....So i used a 10% off my entire purchase coupon & a 40% off coupon. Plus the manager gave me the webbing for the online price which was 40% off I think.
My Total for the JAF was $20.80 w/o tax
Before sales & coupons $30.50 w/o tax

AC Moore
Then I went to AC Moore. I had a 50% off coupon for them. I looked around a couple minutes. Grabbed a 2 pack value pack of canvas that was on sale 40% off. Then I was blank.... It also took me 2 hours at spend $27.43 here. I was sleeping, I couldn't get a hold of John, and I just wasn't sure which things I wanted, and which direction I wanted my next art project to do... So then I looked at a little of everything. They had all kinds of gorgeous beads on sale for 50% off each pack. I looked at those for a long while had a bunch picked out and decided against getting them. Then I was looking at Screen Printing stuff because I have been wanted to do that for over a year not. I will sooner of later! .... Then painting, and baking, stamps, block printing, clay... a little of everything. But I finally got 2 paint brushes that were at 50% off. Actually they were more off but not sure how much. I got 2 plain Hanes T-shirts. And a book called Book Craft that talks about binding your own book. Which I am looking forward to doing and selling later on.
My Total: $25.88 w/o tax
Before sales & coupons Total: $52.06

Total saving between the 2 art stores $35.88 ... go mmeeee... go meeee.... lol :)

I also went to Toys R Us & the gas station. I forgot or maybe was to lazy to stop by Krogers & another store to get my face moisturizer..Plus I stopped at Taco Bell and got a Bean Burrito w/ just beans..

I had a long day. Came home around 3pm and finally went to bed around 11pm.

O' yeah
I made a veggie Pizza last night too... with a little bit of everything. Even Made my own sauce W/ Flax.

Morningstar Crmbles now include Milk & Egg

There is now another product that I will not be purchasing from Morningstar Farms. They have added egg & milk back to their Crumble product. I never liked them before when they had milk and eggs many years ago and I am not sure why they just ruined a perfectly good product but they did. So until they change it back... BYEBYE Crumbles.

Hey everyone write letters to them! When they see how many people want them back maybe they will change them. I hope so. I write them we aill see what they have to say. Probably the same thing that is posted on vegweb.

Boca on the other hand still have their Vegan crumbles. I used to be able to purchase them for $2.80 a box and now when I can find them I have to pay $3.99 a box. But I will pay that if I have too or back to making my own veggies substitutes... or just using TVP crumbles.

They have also been discontinuing some of their products...

Shame on their company for ruining everything!!!!!!!!

Here are some other web posting ....

Silk Soy Milk- No longer the Silk we once loved!

I have recently realized that Silk is now longer owned by the same company and has also changed from all organic to "Natural". All the Silk you find in the Milk section of the grocery store is now "Natural" the only organic silk I have found comes in the Tetra pack pantry style boxes. Which are very expensive. Now it would be over $8.00 for one gallon of organic silk and that is at Walmart. If you go to other stores and look at their prices it will be around $12 a gallon. That is outrageous. Have I mentioned who Dean foods is? They are a DAIRY company!!!!!!! Yes.. a DAIRY Company!!!! This has me out raged. I have stopped purchasing their product and have moved to a store brand Organic Label. I will not purchase from their company since they are a dairy company and plus it is no longer organic. So write the company. I did. Let them know how you feel about the "Natural" instead of Organic..and Silk used to use small organic farmers and now they are no longer supporting them. They have moved to bigger producers! So let them know that that is not ok. Click a link Below! Below the link is the generic response I received when I wrote asking why their product was not longer organic. I will be sending them a new letter about the price of there so called "available" organic products.. They are not available when they cost out the A$$..!!!

"Thank you for your recent e-mail to Silk®. We appreciate your interest in our products. Offering a broader range of products to meet consumer demand. We know some consumers are more interested in the health benefits associated with adding soy in their diet (cholesterol-free, lactose-free, and may reduce the risk of heart disease) than with organic certification. Those interested in organic products, we still offer the plain, vanilla, and unsweetened In an organic option.

Product reviews #1 of 2009

Amy's Organic Spicy Chipotle Salsa

I think this stuff is really good. I am super picky about salsa. So to find one I think is pretty good takes forever. But John isn't a big fan of the smoky chipolte flavor... It costs about $4.59 for a 17.5oz

Kawan Paratha (Roti)

I am not sure if these are vegan. I think they are. We came across these when my husband was was installing a satalite at a customers house. They were from India. Which is were John's Family is orignally from. Anyways. They fed him veggies and sent him home with 3 packs of this bread. When this fries up it is so good.... fattening and very high in calories but so so yummy!!!! Try it!!! You will not be disappointed.

Next up is Pasta Sauce. I am very very picky about pasta sauce. Just because I am not good with spices that I can visually see in my food... so.. I normally strain mine. That said....

Del Grosso Organic Garden Medeley....

Well my husbands firsts words were well since its is Del "Grosso" what do you think its going to taste like???? lol... Well John did really like it. I an the other hand really didn't. It was nice that it had chunky veggies in it but at the same time I could not strain it. So I ended up eating my pasta with northern beans and smart balance light. But John gave it a definitely thumbs up and said he would really like to have it again. It costs $2.50 -$2.95 for a 24oz Jar.

I have been putting off trying this next product for a while. Nutritional yeast is really not a thing that works in my food.

Road's end organics Mac and Chreese Cheddar style
But it turned out to be ok. I didn't eat like a huge amount. But it did fix my mac & cheese craving. So I will definitaly have it again. It costs about $2.oo for a regular size box.

Roads end organics Chreese Powder
I have also purchased this product seperatly and although I have not added water and made it a cheese sauce. I have used it in my pop corn. It works well and gives your popcorn that extra little zing. But I will update this when I add water to it to use it for the Chreese sammie recipe on the back. 1.1oz for $1.35 at vegan essentials. Or you can get it in bulk.

Back with more reviews soon!

Vegan Essentials Order

A few days ago I sent my order in. I was so excited because I can't get any of this stuff around here. I spent $92.o9 and that was with a 10% off coupon from Compassionate cooks podcast.

So I purchased:
Teese Cheddar
Teese Mozzarella
3 Chreese Packets Ched, Mon, Alfrado
Eco-Planet Crackers
2 Rice marshmallow Treats- I thought it was a 5 pack box! But no!
Vegan Gummies
2 Butler soy curls
Field Roast
2 Vegetarian Chili seasoning
Sweet & Sara Marshmellows
Creamy Dill Dip Packet
Eat like you give a damn t-shirt
meat free zone sign
Keep it organic button
No tails were docked magnet
Life tree Soap
Vegetarians save lives button
Vegan unflavored Jel

It wasn't really that much stuff for the price and I was kinda let down when I opened it. I am excited to try the teese though! So I will leave a review later on all the stuff. Here a couple reviews...

The meat free zone sign: It is printed on a card stock type paper. I thought it would be a thicker plastic. Like signs are normally made of. The ink was messed up and it was bent into. I called and they said they would show me another one.

No tails were docked Magnet: I do like this. It is made pretty good. I put it on my fridge as soon and I got it! John likes it too.

The 2 bottons: are cute. they are buttons what more can I say.

Sweet & Sarah marshmallows: I was kinda let down by these. I am sure I will grow to love them. But I think they have a after taste. John liked them though. I will give them a couple more tries.

Echo Crackers "Cheese" Flavored: These are good. They taste like the ones your used to when you eat real cheese. Pretty Good!

T-Shirt- Seems to be made out of good quilty material. I will let you know how it stands up to washing.

All Natural Product Reviews

I have been reading over some product reviews except I really don't find many reviews for natural products. So I think I am going to start doing some product reviews. I am going to make a star rating system for now.

1-* Would not use again probably will not finish what I purchased.

2-**Would not purchase again but might finish it just because its all natural and it is greener to finish it then toss it is the garbage. plus there is a little that I like about the product.
3-*** Might purchase again but the is a couple of things that bother me about the product. But it isn't that bad.
4-**** Would buy again but there is something I find a little off. Just something small that I can be picky about. Such as an ingredient or fragrance.
5-***** Great. I love it. It is one of the best products I have ever tried.

I will probably change these to be more veggie cute later but this is just the new quick work up of star ratings.

*****Kiss My Face obsessively natural Chinese Botanical Lotion $10.99 per16oz: I really love this lotion. Normally I purchase lotion and never use it. I am happy to say I have found a natural lotion that I love the smell of and can be proud to wear it because I know it has not been tested on animals and contains no animal ingredients. So it smells great, makes my skin feel smooth and awesome and I am proud to use it. It is a little high in price but for this product that gives me a piece of mind that ok with me. It does have a list of around 39 ingredients. Which is a little long but at least they are all natural and most are plant extracts. It is really nice to that most of the ingredients list has its origin list beside it. My skin is very dry this winter and it has really made my skin very smooth again which is of course great. The product is 100% biodegradable and the bottle is also recyclable as a plastic type 1.

**** (4 stars)Alba Terra Gloss Shimmering Natural Color 5.99 .42oz : This product is similar in flavor to the conventional lip gloss which I am really not a fan of. The color BLOOM which I picked out is really nice. It does moisturize my lips and sticks around for a little while. So if you don't mind re applying every so often it good. I don't mind. The color does stick around for a little while after the gloss goes away. I would say you would need to reapply (depending of what you are doing) around every 2 or 3 hours which isn't bad. This product does include beeswax. So it is not vegan. But I do feel alot better using it just because it is an all natural company. This product also contains tocopheryl acetate which protects from the suns UV Rays. But lists natural flavor which annoys me because you don't know exactly what is in it. The last thing is I'm not sure how I feel about the silica ( which most natural and conventional products include) because of health and mineral mining issues. ( If anyone has any info on that throw it my way please. Thanks

**
Burts Bees Lifeguard's Choice Lip Balm 2.99 .15oz: This product I really loved till I read the ingredients list. Which contains lanolin ( Secreted from the skin of wool animals). I don't use wool and I don't intend on buying this product in the future. Before I noticed the the Lanolin I really liked it. The one thing that was a little strange about it was that it kinda turns your lips a white cool. Which really didn't bother me. This product reminded me of the chap stick my parents used while I was growing up that came in a little round container that you dab your finger in and apply it to your lips. The BB Lip balm is in a tube made out of 50% post industrial recycled plastic which is very nice but it does not have a recyclable triangle. But it still gives you that tingle on your lips when you first put it on ( I liked that). This product is not tested on animals.

**** Alba Moisturizing Cream Shave Mango Vanilla 8fl oz: I love this product. It makes my legs silky smooth after shaving. It smells really great and the smell sticks around until the next day. It is a great moisturizer. I never have any nicks, cuts, or irritation. My legs used to itch a little after shaving and with this shave lotion they do not. The only questionable ingredient to me is Sodium Hydroxide (also known as lye) it is found in things like oven cleaner, cleaning detergents, & drain cleaners. The other products come from more natural sources most plant extracts. This product is 100% vegetarian & not tested on animals. It is also packaged in a recyclable container. (4 Stars)
